there were two things that really were foremost for the obama administration. one there is a stirmish between china and japan over islands in the east china sea. a big problem for international security. joe biden met with both the prime minister of japan and the president of china and said he made clear to china he wanted them to sort of roll back an air defense zone that china established unilaterally and is threatening japanese and even american commercial aircraft that you have to announce before you enter that space that you have to announce to china you're doing so. it's caused a lot of turmoil and headaches and so the vice president really made that clear. the other big thing in the trip was for the obama administration to make clear their so-called pivot to asia is still a viable priority for them, president obama had to cancel a trip to asia during the government shutdown so the strp was there to say we're still here and still will be strong in the region. >> i'm going to go ahead and change the topic quickly and on a personal note i wanted to ask you i heard that you got into a skir
insurance because the obama care website remains a disaster, even though now the administration's website gurus are bragging that healthcare.gov is working more than 90% of the time. that's good enough for government work. get on the school bus, kids! principal obama says the bridge is 90% complete! >> you'd better get ready, folks. let's hope it goes better the second time around. the white house about to go on a pr offensive surrounding the health care law. >>> also this morning, we know a lot more about what happened before the deadly train derailment in new york, the speed, the engine and now attention seems to be squarely on the driver. >>> and the hardest working newsman at it again, from a north carolina newscast to a north of the border curling match, ron burgundy takes his polyester to canada. this is "way too early." >> look at this. >> there it is. ♪ >> pretty good form out of will ferrell up there on the ice. good balance, good follow-through. good morning, everybody. brian shactman here, tuesday, december 3rd. we have a pretty shocking route on "monday night football." we'l
down. >> there you go. i can see how that would relate. let's get to obama care and the new numbers released. 29,000 people enrolled through the website in the last few days. that's more than the entire month of october and what some administration officials are saying an enrollment surge. should they be celebrating just yet? >> no. there are so many issues remaining with obama care, they just got past the first one which apparently is the mess up with the website. but to compare it to october is not really much of a comparison. you know, it was nil in october. >> and so what are some of the other challenges that they're going to have to confront? >> they have to go with the doctors who are not getting paid, not being included in networks. you have to solve the problems with irs and coordinatation with the various agencies. how are people going to be paid? there's all kinds of problems that have to be worked out. >> a little too early to celebrate. now when it comes to obama care, republicans clearly have the political advantage for a while. but now that white house seems to be gett
, that's something he has to address. >> president obama is coming be in nur preer from republicans and democrats to fire members of his administration in the wake of that botched healthcare.gov rollout. do you that i is going to happen? >> this is a president that doesn't like to fire people. he nudges them out. if anyone is under the gun, it is folks at the health and human services. they have a few more weeks to make sure this website is working before anyone potentially loses their job. >> now the house extended a ban on plastic guns yesterday and the senate is expected to follow. why was this ban seemingly so easy to pass when restrictions on ak-47s and further background checks ran into such trouble even in the face of the terrible tragedy like the newtown shooting? >> the nra stayed quiet. they said nothing about this. that is partly, of course, the gun industry would prefer you buy a gun from than make one through a 3 d printer. so staying quiet and not taking a position is seen as favoring this bill. that makes it easier for republicans and democrats from gun friendly areas
